Waikiki Beach Management Plan (2018)
The Waikīkī Beach Special Improvement District Association (WBSIDA) has developed strategies for a Beach Management Plan for Waikīkī in partnership with the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program (Hawaii Sea Grant). Evaluating Erosion Management Strategies in Waikiki, Hawaii. February, 2020.
This paper presents opportunities and implications of nourishment for planning and future research in Waikiki. The findings indicate that nourishment may be a beneficial and economical approach to manage erosion in this densely developed, economically significant beach setting. Nourishment may provide a no-regrets, suitable approach for managing erosion in Waikiki until other solutions emerge.
Beach Restoration Design and Equilibrium Profile
Beach nourishment projects are designed and constructed to take advantage of the natural forces, such as waves and currents, to move sand offshore. This process results in a natural sloping beach within the littoral zone, and is referred to as profile equilibration(or profile adjustment)....
